A popular Wyoming County coach was killed Tuesday in a head-on collision near Pineville.

School officials confirmed Stacy Wayne McLamb, 31, of Mullens, died in the accident on W.Va. 10 just outside Pineville.

McLamb was an assistant coach for the Wyoming East seventh- and eighth-grade football team. Players from Herndon, Mullens and Pineville middle schools combined to form the team.

“He was very well liked in Mullens,” said Mullens Middle School principal Sidney R. Bradford. “The kids took it hard. My wife works at Pineville Middle and she said that they had a hard time with it, too.

“He coached a lot of kids sports,” Bradford added. “He was a fifth- and sixth-grade girls basketball coach before he took over at football.”

The accident reportedly occurred around 6:45 a.m. Authorities also said a woman was injured in the accident and transported to a hospital.

Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department officials could not be reached Tuesday to provide further details.
