springfield, oh — West Virginia picked up its first win of the Prospect League season with an extra inning, 9-6, road win over Champion City Thursday night at Carleton Davidson Field.
With the game tied 6-6 entering the top of the 11th inning, Will Harless smacked a solo-homer to give the Miners the lead. Ross Muhall provided the insurance with a two-run blast three batters later.
Trey Alderman set the Kings down in order to seal the game and get the win.
The Miners (1-6) took the early lead on an RBI-single from Jonathan Pasillas and made it a 3-0 game when Matt Rubayo doubled home two runs.
Champion City (5-2) scored single runs in the third and fourth innings to trim the lead to one run before the Miners scored two runs in the sixth inning on RBI-singles from Ross Muhall and Trent Shelby.
Leading 6-2 heading to the home half of the ninth inning, the game unraveled for the Miners when a bases loaded double from Marcus Ernst sparked a four-run inning to tie the game at 6-6, sending it to extra innings.
The two reams will close out the three-game series tonight at 6:35 p.m.
