Mount Hope’s quest for perfection will continue Friday night.

The Mustangs, rated No. 3 in Class A, will host No. 6 Clay-Battelle at 7:30 p.m. in the second round of the state playoffs.

Mount Hope (11-0) is coming off a 52-0 first-round shellacking of Fayette County rival No. 13 Meadow Bridge. Senior running back Jamel Shelton rushed for 191 yards and three touchdowns against the Wildcats.

Shelton now has 1,536 yards and 26 touchdowns on the season.

Clay-Battelle (10-1) advanced with a 28-8 win over Tug Valley in the first round.

Also in Class A, fourth-rated Greenbrier West (9-2) will host No. 12 Notre Dame (8-3) in Charmco at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Cavaliers disposed of No. 14 Buffalo 22-16. Senior Trent Walker ran for 200 yards and a pair of touchdowns for West.

Notre Dame upset No. 5 Wahama 13-7 in double overtime Saturday night.

In Class AA, No. 1 and undefeated James Monroe (11-0) welcomes No. 8 Keyser (8-3) to Lindside at 1:30 p.m. Saturday.

The Mavericks had no trouble ousting No. 16 Independence 55-8 Friday night. They rushed for 466 yards, getting 158 and three touchdowns from Ernie Tincher and 134 and a score from Jason Jackson.

Keyser beat Magnolia 41-8 in the first round.
