Brown named WVC Player of the Week
Concord University’s Jolysa Brown and West Virginia Wesleyan’s Lydia Bridenbaugh have been named co-WVIAC Players of the Week, as announced by the league office.
Brown had a spectacular performance in the win over Fairmont State Saturday. She totaled 28 points to go along with 12 rebounds for her sixth double-double of the season and the 37th of her career. She also had five assists, five steals and blocked two shots.
It was the second player of the week award of the season for Brown, a senior and former Summers County High School state player of the year.
Several area players had solid games in losing efforts Monday night around the West Virginia Conference.
Ohio Valley 88, Concord 84
VIENNA — Kendall Allison poured in 33 points and grabbed eight rebounds to pace OVU.
Javaughn Acree-Manuel tallied 25 points for the Mountain Lions.
W.Va. State 93, Bluefield State 75
INSTITUTE — Corey Bethea amassed 21 points and six steals in the victory for the Yellow Jackets.
Chase Morgan (Wyoming East) scored 21 points ifor the Big Blues.
Ohio Valley 78, Concord 63
VIENNA — The Fighting Scots held the Mountain Lions to just 29.4 percent shooting in the floor in the second half to pull the upset. OVU was led by Amber Avery’s 18 points.
Concord’s Amanda Smith (ex-Princeton) tallied a team-high 18 points while Jolysa Brown (Summers County) totaled 15 points and six assists to go along with a game-high three blocks.
W.Va. Wesleyan 90, Shepherd 82
SHEPHERDSTOWN — Jamie Kaufman recorded a game-high 28 points for Wesleyan, while Lydia Bridenbaugh netted 27.
Former Shady Spring standout Emily Daniel had 15 points for Shepherd.
W.Va. State 82, Bluefield State 72
INSTITUTE — Jasmine Blanton posted 25 points for the Yellow Jackets in the win.
Charlene Diggs (Woodrow Wilson) led Bluefield with 16 points, while Kelli Morgan (Greenbrier East) totaled 11 points and 11 rebounds.
