Another New Year’s Eve is almost here, and we would be remiss if we didn’t wish you all a Happy New Year and a safe time in celebrating the beginning of 2006.

Dec. 31 is one of, if not the biggest, party day and evening of the year. Everyone should have a great time; however, good judgment and a little prior planning can make it a whole lot better for everyone.

If you plan on drinking, don’t drive. Not even if you’ve only had one or two. Designate a driver, hand off your keys or call a cab. Your vehicle will still be there the next day.

We don’t want to hear about “X” number of DUI arrests, although we know there will be. Nor do we want to hear about bad or fatal accidents caused by an alcohol-impaired driver.

If you do drink and drive, the luckiest that can happen to you is that you will be caught, charged and jailed without causing physical injury to anyone else. The worst thing is being responsible for taking someone else’s life and having that on your mind for eternity, as well as doing the time for homicide.

Just be smart, party hearty and be transported safely. The worst scenario then is something that can be resolved with a few Excedrin or a shot or two of Pepto.
