Republican challenger Mac Warner has defeated incumbent Secretary of State Natalie Tennant.
Warner is a retired military attorney, veteran and former U.S. State Department contractor in Afghanistan. He comes from a prominent Republican family. One brother is former state GOP chairman Kris Warner, another is former gubernatorial candidate Monty Warner, and a third is Kasey Warner, a former U.S. attorney in the state's southern district.
Tennant had touted her office's efforts to modernize elections through online voter registration. The former television broadcaster had unsuccessful runs for governor in 2011 and U.S. Senate in 2014.
