Gorgeous weather greeted throngs of visitors to the fifth annual Lewisburg Chocolate Festival Saturday.
Event chairwoman Kim Cooper smiled ear to ear as she said, “We sold double the number of tasting tickets this year as last. There are more than 7,000 people here today (as of 12:30 p.m. Saturday), whereas normally 4,000 to 5,000 attend. By the end of the day, we expect attendance to be twice last year’s count.”
The 30,000 tasting tickets — each good for one sample of a chocolate treat from one of more than 30 participating downtown merchants — were completely sold out by 11:30 a.m., with most festival-goers purchasing tickets in advance online.
“There will always be some people disappointed they don’t have tickets when they arrive,” Cooper said. “But I’d say 99 percent of those attending this year did buy in advance.”
