A Fayette County man was in jail Sunday night on several charges, including battery on a police officer.
According to Oak Hill Police, Sgt. J.B. Goines arrived at the scene of a burglary in progress on Woodbridge Road Saturday night when he spotted Johnny M. Johnston Jr., age unknown, of Page, running from a house.
Goines ran after Johnston and was joined by Patrolman C.A. Young.
Police say Goines and Johnston caught up to Johnston and, after a brief struggle during which the suspect allegedly struck Richardson in the chest and Young in the leg, placed him under arrest.
Neither of the officers were injured.
During an investigation, police say, they found two homes and one outbuilding had been broken into and one house reportedly had several thousand dollars worth of damage on the inside.
Johnston was charged with two counts of nighttime burglary, breaking and entering of an outbuilding, attempted grand larceny, destruction of property with damage over $2,500 and second offense petit larceny, all felonies.
He was also charged with seven misdemeanors including two counts of destruction of property, fleeing on foot, two counts of resisting arrest and two counts of battery on a police officer.
Johnston was transported to Southern Regional Jail and is currently being held in lieu of a $50,000 bond.
