State Police say an Indiana man was arrested in Greenbrier County Wednesday after being located by a GPS receiver inside a truck that was reportedly stolen.

Christopher Edward Whitney, 47, of Angola, Ind., was arrested for transporting stolen goods about noon at Harts Run near White Sulphur Springs by Trooper J.L. Burdette, according to 1st Sgt. J.L. Cahill.

Cahill said the Indiana-based R. Way Transportation company reported the 1995 Peterbilt truck stolen Wednesday and said the truck’s Global Positioning System receiver indicated it was traveling east on Interstate 64 near Sandstone Mountain.

The truck, valued at over $30,000, was not hitched to a trailer, Cahill said, and theft charges most likely will be forthcoming from Indiana.

Cahill said Whitney confessed to stealing the truck, saying he was trying to visit friends in Virginia.

Cahill said the truck was allegedly stolen in Indiana, but the theft was not reported earlier because of the holiday season.

Whitney was being held Wednesday at Southern Regional Jail on $5,000 bond.
