A Beckley man is behind bars after allegedly robbing the Little General Store on Johnstown Road Wednesday night.
Beckley Police Detective David Allard said Mark Alvis Harvey, clad in a dark hoodie and a mask, went to the store around 9:25 p.m., brandished a knife and demanded money from the clerk. He then fled with an undisclosed amount of cash.
Based on surveillance video, help from the Raleigh County Sheriff’s Office and witnesses, police were able to identify Harvey and locate him a mere hour later in a Scott Avenue residence, where he was hiding in the utility closet.
Allard said they were also able to recover some of the cash stolen from the store.
Harvey is charged with one count of first-degree robbery, and the sheriff also charged him with one count of first-degree robbery for a robbery at the Beaver Exxon station. He was remanded to Southern Regional Jail with a $200,000 bond.
“This just shows what happens when agencies work together toward a common goal,” Allard said. “This incident happened at 9:30 p.m., and we had him in custody by about 10:30 p.m.”
