A call came into the Raleigh County Emergency Operation Center around 3:30 a.m. Sunday reporting that a fire could be seen from Interstate 77, an EOC operator said.

Mabscott, Sophia Area, Sophia City and Beaver fire departments responded to the fully involved structure on Glendale Road in MacArthur, the official said. The structure was reportedly abandoned and had been on fire before.

According to the 911 call center, no one was injured, but the fire did rekindle Sunday morning around 10 a.m.; firefighters had the rekindled flames extinguished and had cleared the scene by 11:25 a.m.

Neighbors reported that portions of the rubble were glowing around 4 p.m., and Mabscott Fire Department returned to the scene to “hit some of the hot spots” as a preventative measure, according to the operator.
