Beckley attorney Bill Wooton picked up the endorsement Tuesday of Local 6105 of the United Mine Workers of America’s COMPAC committee.

Wooton is one of three Democrats vying for the party’s nomination in the 9th District of the state Senate.

The UMWA local said it based its decision to endorse the former Senate judiciary chairman on his record as a legislator, good character, military service, history of working with others, work on children’s programs and his help in getting the first cancer clinic in Raleigh County.

“We also realize that no elected official will be able to deliver on promises without support from others,” the union said.

“Bill Wooton’s record and history show that he is able to acquire the support where others cannot.”

Wooton expressed gratitude for the endorsement and applauded the “hard work and dedication of coal miners everywhere as they perform their duties to supply America’s energy needs under the most trying, dangerous conditions imaginable.”
