UNION — Newly elected board members Aaron Judy and William Shiflet began their terms on the Monroe County Board of Education this week, along with re-elected board member Ed Pell, according to Superintendent Dr. Lyn Guy.

Board members elected Pell president and Keith Wickline vice president. Meeting dates will be the first and third Tuesdays of the month at 7 p.m.

“As part of orientation for the new members, central office staff were present to both introduce themselves and to discuss their roles in dealing with transportation, paying bills, setting up staff development and running programs for which federal fund require certain rules to be met,” Guy said.

“The central office has over 650 distinct responsibilities and everyone wears a number of hats in order to meet all of the requirements for county wide oversight.”

The board approved the transfer of Jan Ellis to Mountain View for special education, Libby Kowalsky from temporary to permanent receptionist/secretary at the BOE office, Curtis Lucas to general maintenance, Lisa Carter to secretary at Mountain View and Frank Mohler to the Wolf Creek, Bud Ridge bus run, Guy said.

Nicholas Wikle was hired for grounds and general maintenance, Teresa Allen for Title 1 Reading at Peterstown elementary and Deborah Crislip as a 20-day summer custodian at James Monroe High School.

Jan Ellis was hired for extended school year and 21st Century Summer program for special education instruction and Sandra Bishop was hired as the bus aide at Peterstown Elementary.

Additional hirings for summer programs include Courtney Mann, college mentor; Holly Brown-Mester, Stephanie Holly, Sherry Mann, Cindy McClaugherty, Joan Menard, Sherri Mann, enchrichment instructors; Robbie Jackson, custodian; Sandra Bishop, special education bus aide; and high school assistants Kelly Boon and Katy Powell.
