Two people were injured — one critically — in a Tuesday morning accident on U.S. 19 at the intersection with Sun Mine Road.

The Fayette County Sheriff’s Department was notified shortly before 8 a.m. about the two-vehicle collision at the intersection south of Glen Jean, according to Fayette County Sheriff Bill Laird.

Preliminary reports indicate that April Bourgord, 30, of Oak Hill was heading south on 19 in a 1998 Jeep Cherokee, Laird said. Marty Davis, 47, of Beckley, pulled onto 19 from Sun Mine Road in a 2001 Chevy Blazer, according to Laird.

Bourgord’s vehicle struck Davis’ Blazer on the driver’s side. Both individuals were transported to Raleigh General Hospital, Laird said.

Davis was reported to be in critical condition at Raleigh General and Bourgord, who was later transferred to Charleston Area Medical Center, remained under evaluation Tuesday evening at CAMC.

The accident closed a portion of U.S. 19 for about one hour. The Mount Hope and Oak Hill fire departments and the Oak Hill Police Department responded to the incident.

No citations have been issued, but the accident remains under investigation by Deputy W.K. Willis.
