Fire & Iron Motorcycle Club, an international club made up of firefighters and those in public service, will host its national rally and rides this week.

Staying in Beckley, the group has arranged rides throughout the state including to the Trans-Allegheny Lunatic Asylum in Weston and a group ride deep into the Coalfields region.

With up to 600 motorcycles present, Toney Calhoun, a regional officer, is expecting heavy traffic at times and is requesting the public to remain vigilant for motorcycles.

The group meets every two years and at the last national rally in St. Louis, the group’s West Virginia contingent won the bid to host this year’s event.

Calhoun said the choice wasn’t difficult with West Virginia’s access to an ample number of beautiful back roads.

The regional officer, who said he has ridden all over the country, believes his home state has the best motorcycle-riding roads and is looking forward to showing them off this week.

Riders will be coming in from all across the nation and as far away as Germany to ride, with official ride days being June 20-24.

The group will hold its culminating ride Saturday beginning at 10:30 a.m. on Harper Road in Beckley before making its way up U.S. 19 and over the New River Gorge Bridge before ending their ride at Adventures on the Gorge.
