An officer looks over the car that crashed through the Sophia City Bingo Hall Thursday night. One person died in the accident.

Raleigh County Sheriff Scott Van Meter has identified the victim of the Thursday night accident at the Sophia City Bingo Hall as Linda Keens.

Van Meter reported a vehicle, driven by Peggy Griffin, 51, was attempting to pull onto Main Street towards Beckley when it was struck by another vehicle traveling towards the Tams area.

After being struck, Griffin's vehicle accelerated and lost control, striking a parked vehicle, he said.

Griffin's vehicle continued along the sidewalk before eventually crashing through the wall of the building where it struck several patrons inside, Van Meter reported. He said Keens died as a result of the injuries she sustained.

The crash still remains under investigation by the Raleigh County Sheriff's Office, Sophia Police Department and the State Police.

Van Meter said accident occurred about 9:30 p.m.

Twelve people were injured. In addition to the fatality, Sophia City Assistant Fire Chief Scott Thomas said injuries ranged from minor to critical.

The incident is under investigation by the Raleigh County Sheriff's Office and West Virginia State Police.

Also on the scene were Sophia Police, Sophia and Sophia City fire departments and Jan-Care Ambulance.
