Oak Hill man arrested after pointing gun at girlfriend's child

An Oak Hill man was arrested Tuesday after he allegedly pointed a handgun at his girlfriend's 13-year old child Saturday while making a verbal threat, Sheriff Mike Fridley reported. 

Lloyd Stanley Smith, 39, was arrested on the felony charge of child neglect creating substantial risk of injury, Fridley said, and was transported to Southern Regional Jail after being unable to post the $5,000 bond set by the Fayette County Magistrate's Office.

Fridley reported detectives executed a search warrant for Smith's residence at the time of his arrest in an attempt to locate the firearm. He said information received indicated Smith may have sold the handgun prior to his arrest. Smith, a convicted felon, is permanently prohibited from owning or possessing a firearm.
