Bargain Box is now open

submitted photoOwner Randolph “Joe” Baker and his assistant, Lonnie Spencer, strike a pose with some of the appliances they have for sale at the Bargain Box in Alderson.

Offering used appliances at reasonable prices, the Bargain Box is open for business on Walnut Street in Alderson.

Owner Randolph “Joe” Baker says he is selling used washers, dryers, refrigerators and electric stoves at bargain prices. Lonnie Spencer is Baker’s assistant in this new endeavor.

The fellows at Bargain Box take in appliances, clean them and repair them, if needed. If an appliance cannot be repaired, usable parts are removed, and the rest is donated to the ROTC program at Greenbrier East High School, according to a press release issued by the town.

The store’s washers usually sell for around $200, dryers for $150, electric stoves for $150 and refrigerators for $275. A $25 discount is given if an old appliance is traded in.

All sales come with a 30-day warranty.

If the appliances stop running during that time, it will be repaired or replaced.

“A lot of people cannot afford to buy new, so this shop meets a need,” Baker says in the release.

Alderson Mayor Travis Copenhaver welcomes the new business to his town.

“These guys are keeping usable appliances out of the landfill and helping people who might not be able to buy something new,” Copenhaver says. “It works for everyone.”

Usually open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday, the Bargain Box can be reached at 304-992-9809 or 304-667-1947.
