Leah Copely, from the Cary Ballet Conservatory in Cary, N.C., leads dancers in warmup exercises. The dancers, from Beckley Dance Studio, auditioned for the conservatory Saturday and one student will get a scholarship. The recipient will be announced today.

Dancers from Beckley Dance Studio were auditioned Saturday for the Cary Ballet Conservatory in Cary, N.C.

Instructor Jerry Rose said Leah Copley, a teacher at the conservatory with 26 years of experience, held auditions in Beckley and will grant one lucky student a scholarship to attend the conservatory, said Rose.

This audition was one stop across the country, he noted. Other cities where auditions will be held are Las Vegas, Santa Fe, New Orleans, New Haven and Philadelphia.

“Not all of them will be able to be accepted to the conservatory, but one of these girls will get a scholarship. In the past we have sent students there,” Rose said.

Two of Rose’s dance students, Keagan Vickers and Isabelle Frame, auditioned in Pittsburgh for the Great American Ballet Theatre last weekend and have been accepted there, he said.

“That is what we do here. We train people and from here they mature and become. We are excited to have Leah here as a part of the training program,” he said.

Copley will announce the Beckley area dance student who will be given a scholarship to attend the Cary Ballet Conservatory today.
