Hospice of Southern West Virginia will host the 19th Annual Palliative Care Conference this Thursday at Tamarack’s Conference Center in Beckley.

This year's conference, set for 8 a.m. to 4:15 p.m., has a theme of “Palliative Care Pressure: Managing Stress of End of Life Care.”

The release said the one-day CME/CEU conference is designed to challenge and strengthen the public’s knowledge of palliative care concepts, whether they are a seasoned palliative care professional or someone who simply wants a broadened understanding of palliative and end-of-life care issues, trends and approaches.

Attendees are traditionally a combination of physicians, physician assistants, nurse practitioners, RNs, LPNs, CNAs, pharmacists, social workers, counselors, health care administrators and hospice volunteers.

This year’s plenary speaker is Dr. Bethann Scarborough, who is an Assistant Professor of Palliative Medicine and Associate Director of Ambulatory Palliative Care at Mount Sinai in New York City.
