The Register-Herald Amateur Photo contest officially closed for entries on Friday, June 28, with 132 participants, who entered a total of 294 photos.

Judges picked 28 photos in the first round and now images will move forward to a team of six professional photographers who will select the top four images.  Those four images will then be judged in two categories — Judges’ Choice and People’s Choice.

The Judges’ Choice Award will be selected by the eight professional photographers whose images are displayed in the front entrance lobby of Beckley Newspapers, located at 801 N. Kanawha St. in Beckley. The People’s Choice Award will be selected by votes cast online and in person at the newspaper lobby.

After the four finalists are chosen the images will be posted online July 15-19 to cast your vote. Photos will also be on display in the newspaper lobby, along with ballot boxes for voting.
