Time is running out for those interested in participating in Wyoming County Day at the Legislature.
Organizations and businesses interested in participating are encouraged to contact the Wyoming County Economic Development Authority office at 304-732-6707 for a booth application. Space is limited and will be provided on a first-come, first-served basis; deadline is Feb. 12.
Showcasing the best of Wyoming County is the focus of the fourth annual Wyoming County Day at the Legislature, scheduled Monday, March 1, in the Upper Rotunda, on the House and Senate side, of the State Capitol in Charleston.
Set up for participants is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m.
A reception will follow in the Cultural Center from 4 until 7 p.m.
Organizers hope to make the state more aware of what Wyoming County has to offer and bring more visitors into the area.
Plans for the day-long affair have been in the works since last year’s event in Charleston.
Free refreshments will again be provided to capitol visitors in the Upper Rotunda that morning, with a variety of booths showcasing agencies and activities from across the county, using the theme “Wyoming County — A Great Place To Live, Work, And Play,” according to Christy Laxton, executive director of the Wyoming County Economic Development Authority.
Golf umbrellas will be presented to legislators, along with other items portraying local ambiance, as well as a boxed lunch.
Entertainment will be provided by well-known musician John Michael Thornsbury, on his banjo, and the Bluegrass Crossties.
During afternoon meetings, participants will meet with legislative representatives for a review of the session and how the proceedings will impact Wyoming County.
County businesses can also provide photos to be included in a Power Point presentation that will play throughout the day-long activities. Those photos can be submitted to the Wyoming County Economic Development Authority.
Transportation will be provided by buses from both Westside and Wyoming County East high schools that morning; departure is scheduled at both schools for 7:30 a.m. The buses will return to the school about 5 p.m.
Door prizes and awards will also be presented during the day. Businesses and agencies interested in providing door prizes or cash donations may do so by contacting the Wyoming County Economic Development Authority office.
