Numerous arrests were made last week in Wyoming County, according to local law enforcement authorities.
Wyoming County Sheriff’s Department arrested an Oceana man in connection with a home invasion in Kopperston Friday evening.
Christopher Reed, 23, was charged with daytime burglary and malicious wounding, according to Chief Deputy Randall Aliff.
Reed reportedly tried to force his way into a house in the upper camp and struggled with the homeowner, Aliff said. The altercation continued outside the house, Aliff said.
Reed did not get anything in the attempted burglary; he remained in Southern Regional Jail Monday evening, Aliff said.
The investigation is continuing.
Four Raleigh County residents were arrested following an investigation into stolen metal from an old saw mill near Tralee June 16, according Aliff.
Carl Whittaker, 25, of Lester; along with John Whittaker, 30, of Odd; Jeremy Wilson, 29, of Helen; and Shannon Whittaker, 22, of Lester, each were charged with grand larceny and felony breaking and entering, Aliff said.
The metal items were discovered in a truck during a traffic stop by Mullens Police Chief Ray Toler, Sgt. J. Meadows, and Deputy Shane White.
Bond was set at $10,000 each; two of the four remained in Southern Regional Jail Monday evening, according to jail records.
The investigation is continuing.
Danny O’Neal, 29, of Bud was arrested after he allegedly broke into a garage in Herndon.
Aliff said the homeowner caught O’Neal and held him unto the sheriff’s department arrived.
O’Neal is charged with entering without breaking and petit larceny.
He remained in Southern Regional Jail Monday eve-ning.
Oren Griffith, 70, of Basin was charged with two counts of distribution of a controlled substance, driving without vehicle insurance, leaving the scene of an accident, two counts of possession without a prescription and first offense driving under the influence, according to Mullens Police Chief Ray Toler.
His bond was set at $22,000 and he was transported to Southern Regional Jail, but according to jail records, had apparently been released by Monday evening.
William C. McKinney, no age provided, of Tracey’s Mountain, was charged with felony destruction of property and driving with a revoked license, according to Toler.
His bond was set at $7,500 and he remained in SRJ Monday evening, according to jail records.
Griffith reportedly entered Wayne’s Market on Black Eagle Road and attempted to purchase beer. The clerk could not take the check, but Griffith left with the beer and got into a truck driven by McKinney.
McKinney hit a soft drink machine and fled the scene.
Police found the truck later; it had been wrecked.
The investigation is continuing by Deputy Shane White, Chief Toler, Sgt. J. Meadows and officer A.L. Cook.
Jimmy Brumfield, 50, of Rhodell was arrested and charged with felony possession with intent to deliver and driving without a license, according to Toler.
His bond was set at $5,000 and had been released from SRJ by Monday evening, according to jail records.
Travis James Harvey, 26, of Lynco was charged with two counts of possession with intent to deliver Monday evening, according to Sheriff C.S. Parker.
Parker said Deputy Shane White was patrolling in the Lynco area and questioned several young men gathered on a bridge on Rt. 971.
The deputy confiscated a couple of different narcotics along with a large amount of cash, Parker said.
Harvey’s bond was set at $50,000 and he remained in Southern Regional Jail Tuesday afternoon.
While White was transporting Harvey to Southern Regional Jail, he entered Little General Store in Mullens. The deputy encountered Josh Smith, 26, of Mullens, in possession of a marijuana cigarette, Parker said.
