Latest WVSSAC football rankings released

Oak Hill may be playing its last four games on the road, but the Red Devils’ play to this point has put them in favorable territory.

In its first season as a Class AAA school, Oak Hill (5-1) has risen to No. 8 in the latest WVSSAC football ratings released Tuesday. If the playoffs were to begin this weekend, the Devils would host No. 9 Musselman.

Right above the Devils is Elkins, which handed them their only blemish in Week 1.

Oak Hill goes to No. 17 Lewis County Friday, then will close the season with trips to Class AA No. 5 Bluefield, PikeView and Lincoln County.

The area has 10 total teams currently rated in the top 16 of their respective classifications. That includes Class AAA No. 14 Woodrow Wilson (4-3), which hosts Parkersburg Friday.

In Class AA, the Beavers (5-1) are back on track after missing the playoffs a year ago. Wyoming East (5-2) is up to No. 9 and will host Class AAA Shady Spring Friday. Webster County (4-3) is enjoying a football resurgence and checks in at No. 12. Right behind the Highlanders at 13th is Liberty (4-2), which visits Raleigh County rival Independence. Westside (4-3) is tied with Braxton County at No. 15.

The Renegades host Bluefield Friday.

In Class A, No. 3 Greenbrier West (6-1) and fourth-rated Valley (6-0) both slipped a spot despite winning last weekend. Meadow Bridge (6-1) checks in at No. 10.

The Secondary School Activities Commission’s high school football computer ratings released Tuesday. The top 16 teams in each class qualify for the playoffs starting Nov. 9:

It’s a play that Woodrow Wilson has practiced everyday this season and has rarely had to utilize.
