The final Associated Press boys basketball poll of the 2012-13 season was released Monday, and the area was again well represented in all three classes.

In the state’s largest class, Woodrow Wilson (18-4) stayed at No. 2, 12 points behind No. 1 Martinsburg (20-2), which received nine out of 10 first-place votes. South Charleston (20-2) received the other first-place vote for the second straight week, despite a lopsided loss to Woodrow Wilson in the Mountain State Athletic Conference championship game.

Greenbrier East continued to slide down the Class AAA rankings. The Spartans (19-3) had climbed as high as No. 3 earlier in the year, but they slipped from sixth to eighth this week after being blown out on the road at South Charleston.

Princeton was the top team in the others receiving votes, coming in 11th and missing out on a spot in the top 10 by just one point.

All three of those area powers will be in action this week at the Class AAA Region 3, Section 1 tournament at the Brushfork Armory in Bluefield.

Beckley, the top seed in the region, will play county rival Shady Spring (a 65-58 winner over Oak Hill Monday), in one semifinal Wednesday at 8 p.m. That will follow the other semifinal, which pits top-seeded Greenbrier East against third-seed Princeton at 6 p.m. The championship game will be played at 7:30 p.m. Friday.

Bluefield (19-3) was again a unanimous No. 1 in Class AA, even after losing its regular season finale to Class AAA foe Princeton. The Beavers’ losses all came to AAA squads, two to Princeton and one to Greenbrier East.

Westside (16-6) made the jump to No. 4 in the Class AA rankings, one spot ahead of Wyoming County rival Wyoming East (15-8), which came in at No. 5. Webster County was No. 8.

Westside — the top seed in Class AA Region 3, Section 1 — plays fifth-seeded Independence, which upset Liberty in the sectional opener, tonight at 8 p.m. at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center. Wyoming East, the No. 2 seed, will play third-seeded Summers County in the other semifinal at 6 p.m.

The championship game will be at 7:30 p.m. Thursday. A Westside-Wyoming East matchup would be the fourth of the season. Wyoming East took the first at Westside, but Westside won the two most recent games, in the Big Atlantic Classic and at Wyoming East.

Bluefield is the No. 1 seed in Class AA Region 3, Section 2. It will play James Monroe tonight in a semifinal game at Princeton High School at 6 p.m. Mount View and PikeView will meet in the other semifinal at 8 p.m., with the championship game at 7 p.m. Friday.

In Class A, Greater Beckley Christian (17-4) stayed at No. 6 to claim the area’s highest ranking. Valley (15-7) stayed inside the top 10, dropping one spot to No. 10. Greenbrier West received one vote to tie for 13th.

Valley, the top seed in Class A Region 3, Section 1, will host Meadow Bridge in a semifinal game at 7 p.m. Wednesday. Greenbrier West, the second seed, will play Midland Trail at home, in the other semifinal, also at 7 p.m. The winners will meet in a championship game at 7 p.m. Friday on the home court of the highest seed.

Greater Beckley Christian will be the No. 2 seed in Class A Region 3, Section 1 and will host Sherman in a semifinal game tonight at 7 p.m. The other semifinal pits Man at Tug Valley, the No. 1 team in Class A.

That sectional final will be at 7 p.m. Friday on the home court of the highest seed.
