What’s happening in Charleston today?

What to watch

Locally, the two games of interest are the 9:30 a.m. Class AA quarterfinal battle between third-seeded Westside and sixth-seeded Bridgeport.

Westside (20-5) brings a 10-game winning streak into today’s game. The Renegades are led by junior center Corey Bowles, who’s averaging 18.3 points per game. Justin Cogar, a sophomore, is averaging 16.8.

Bridgeport (19-7) is led by Tyler Sprouse is the Indians’ top offensive threat.

Later in the evening, the top seed in Class AA, Bluefield, takes on No. 8 seed North Marion at 5:30 p.m.

The Beavers (22-3) haven’t lost to a AA team all year. They’re led by junior guard Anthony Eades, who’s averaging 19.3 points per game and is shooting 42.2 percent from 3-point range. Lykel Collier, another guard, is averaging 13.4 points and leads the team with 206 assists on the year.

North Marion (16-8) is exactly hot, it’s lost three games in the last two weeks, but the Huskies do have three players — Matt Cain (12.7), Cameron Wilson (12.2) and Cody Opron (12.3) averaging double figures in scoring.

The day’s other games include Class AA No. 2 Fairmont Senior against  No. 7 Scott at 1 p.m. and No. 4 Robert C. Byrd up against No. 5 Tolsia at 9 p.m.

There are also a pair of Class AAA games today. No. 4 Washington takes on No. 5 Parkersburg South at 11:15 a.m., and No. 3 South Charleston will battle No. 6 Morgantown at 7:15 p.m.

Where to watch

Of course, there’s nothing quite like being at the Charleston Civic Center to take in the action live, but if you can’t make the trip to the capital city, there are still plenty of ways to follow the action of the second day.

West Virginia MetroNews has the rights to the radio broadcast for every state tournament game. You can find them on various local radio stations or online at www.wvmetronews.com.

Of course, The Register-Herald will also have the action covered. Visit The Register-Herald (Official) Facebook page or follow The Register-Herald on Twitter for updates, photos and more throughout the day.

Then, don’t forget to pick up a copy of Friday’s Register-Herald to read about anything you missed.

Watch it again

Video highlights from today’s Westside-Bridgeport game will be available at www.register-herald.com this evening. Video of Woodrow Wilson’s first-round win over Hurricane is already up on the site.
