One night after getting his girls team to the Big Atlantic Classic Class AAA championship, Greenbrier East coach Jim Justice was trying to make it two for two.
Parkersburg South had other ideas.
Down six going into the fourth, Parkersburg rallied for a 67-63 win Friday in a Class AAA boys game of the Big Atlantic Classic at the Beckley-Raleigh County Convention Center.
Tied at 63-63, Logan Cox had a big stickback and the Patriots made 3 of 6 free throws down the stretch to seal it.
The stickback was just part of a big fourth quarter for Cox, who helped bring the Patriots back from a 6-point deficit entering the fourth quarter.
Cox had 15 points in the fourth and finished with 21 points and 10 rebounds for Parkersburg South.
The Patriots outscored Greenbrier East 26-15 in the final quarter.
Hunter Roberts led the Spartans with 23 points and Obi Romeo had 15 points and 10 rebounds.
The Spartans (9-6) led for most of the second and third quarters.
But Cox had two 3s and a driving basket to give the Patriots a 55-50 lead.
It stayed close, and East took its final lead, 61-60, on a pair of free throws by Roberts.
It was tied on two occasions, at 61 and 63.
The Patriots cut one point off its halftime deficit and trailed 48-42.
It could have been two, but the Patriots missed a lay-up and the Spartans got the ball down the court and Romeo slammed it at the buzzer for the six-point lead.
Greenbrier East surged to a 35-28 haltime lead, and helped itself at the free-throw line by going 12 of 18. Parkersburg South was 0 for 3.
The teams were tied at 16 after one.
Parkersburg South (10-5) will face George Washington in the first Class AAA championship game at 5:40 p.m. today, while East (9-6) will face Fairmont in a consolation game at 10:40 a.m.
