Mountain State advances to quarterfinals with 88-74 victory

KANSAS CITY, Mo. — Eleventh-seeded Mountain State University went 8 for 8 at the foul line in the final two minutes to seal an 88-74 victory Friday over No. 6 Martin Methodist in the second round of the NAIA Tournament.

Cam Miller hit six free throws and Mark Williams sank two more as the Cougars extended an 80-71 lead.

The win puts MSU (26-7) into an 8 p.m. quarterfinal matchup today against either No. 14 Georgetown (Ky.) or Southern New Orleans.

Miller had his second huge game of the tournament, scoring 28 points on 7 of 14 shooting. He was 6 of 12 from the 3-point arc and 8 for 8 at the foul line. He also had six rebounds.

The senior guard scored 30 points Thursday night in a 98-79 win over Mid-American Nazarene.

Four other players hit double figures for MSU, including Isaiah Hill with 15, Quinton Thomas with 11 and Devon Peterson and Mark Williams with 10 apiece.

Hill led in rebounding with seven, while Williams had 10 assists.

Martin Methodist (28-7) led 42-39 at halftime.

Ree McCrory led MM with 23 points. Laquantis Stewart added 14, while James Justice and Jeremy Rodgers tallied 12 apiece.

Georgetown led Southern New Orleans 32-28 at halftime.
