One lucky bride-to-be can save her tax return for the honeymoon when she walks away with a bedroom suite valued at $1,000 as her name is chosen from among the 500-700 expected attendees at the 14th annual Bridal, Prom and Special Occasions Show at Tamarack Conference Center Saturday from noon to 3 p.m.
According to grand prize sponsor and John Eye’s Big Sandy Superstore manager Scott McKinney, a free headboard is a good head start.
He and his employees are accustomed to brides and grooms seeking their advice as first-time furniture buyers.
“At John Eye, we get couples coming in quite regularly who are looking to furnish their whole houses.” Many times, admits McKinney, those couples are newlyweds.
“We are always having different sales and we work with couples, whether it’s a single room or an entire house they’re furnishing, to get them what they need.”
The show prize includes a mission-style, cherry finish headboard and footboard with rails, a matching nightstand and a dresser and mirror (everything except the mattress).
While the tangible prizes given away at the event are determined by odds and good fortune, the intangibles include peace of mind and advanced planning for the masses, with opportunity for gathering information from 50 diverse vendors for everything from bridal jewelry and wedding dress advice to skin care, loan and financial planning options.
“We have 13 vendors new to the show this year with unique venues for receptions, bridal accessories and more,” said the show’s point-person, The Register-Herald’s Ann Kelly.
Organizers announce there are only a handful of tickets remaining for the 10 a.m. pre-show bridal brunch, which offers a taste of lauded Tamarack cuisine and a VIP preview of vendors.
Two full formal fashion shows at 1 p.m. and 2 p.m. will close out the day’s prenuptial activities, directed by Harvey’s Fashions and Bridal. The shows will include popular styles in bridal and attendant attire, along with the latest looks for Prom 2013.
General bridal show registration opens at noon and is free to the public. VIP preview brunch tickets are $15 each and may be purchased at Beckley Newspapers, 801 N. Kanawha St., or by calling 304-255-4409.
