One individual is dead after a brief standoff with police during a traffic stop Monday at exit 169 off Interstate 64 near Lewisburg.
Police told The Register-Herald that the Lewisburg Police Department pulled over a vehicle at the eastbound ramp of exit 169 around 4:30 p.m.
The suspect then brandished a firearm and engaged in a standoff with Lewisburg Police, the Greenbrier County Sheriff’s Department, and the Lewisburg detachment of the West Virginia State Police on U.S. 219, said the officer.
According to the officer, the standoff ended when multiple law enforcement agencies fired on the suspect, who was killed at the scene.
At the time of press, police were not releasing the suspect’s name until next of kin could be notified.
