Man charged with threatening school board

BUCKHANNON — A Buckhannon man faces charges after allegedly invoking the mass shooting in Connecticut in a voice-mail message to the Upshur County Board of Education.

According to media reports, officials say 45-year-old Tony Vincent Herndon called Thursday to demand reinstatement of his privilege to be on school property. He allegedly said that if school officials refused, they know “what happened in Newtown, Conn.” Last month, a gunman shot and killed 26 people inside an elementary school in Newtown before killing himself.

Herndon was charged with making threats of a terrorist act. He is being held in lieu of $125,000 bond.

Upshur County Superintendent of Schools Scott Lampinen said Herndon had been banned from school property a few years ago after coming to a school to seek information on student.
