Warrant sweep nets 10 drug suspects

Beckley police are still searching for 8 others

The Beckley Police Department, along with the U.S. Marshal Service’s Fugitive Task Force, executed several felony drug warrants Friday and made 10 arrests.

Chief Tim Deems said the warrants are a result of several months of investigations conducted by the BPD Narcotics Unit.

A total of 15 officers met at 7 a.m. Friday for a briefing and then set off to deliver the warrants.

By 2 p.m., officers had arrested 10 of the 18 people (see list below) they were looking for.

“The arrests were made quickly and without incident,” Deems said.

The individuals were taken to the magistrate’s office for arraignment, some of whom were then transported to Southern Regional Jail.

He said officers searched for the other eight individuals, but they were not located.

Officers will continue to search for these individuals and anyone with information about their whereabouts are asked to contact police.

“Many of these investigations start from information we receive from the public. We encourage anyone with information about the illegal sale of narcotics to contact us. As we have in the past, we continue to persistently investigate the area’s illegal drug trade and arrest those who break the law.”

Those arrested Friday included:

— Clennel Cobb, 41, Ninth Street, Beckley, charged with delivery of cocaine.

— Sherry Collins, 46, Sunview Drive, Beaver, charged with delivery of oxycodone.

— Athena Grizzle, 27, Industrial Drive, Beckley, charged with delivery of oxycodone.

— Brandon Corey Mays, 19, Wilkes Avenue, Beckley, charged with delivery of marijuana.

— Joey Norkevitz, 47, Carmellia Street, Mount Hope, charged with possession of oxycodone.

—  Erica Polk, 31, Main Street, Sophia, charged with possession of oxycodone.

—  Patricia Wright, 55, Ellison Avenue, Beckley, charged with delivery of oxycodone.

—  Malique Medley, 19, Curtis Street, Beckley, charged with wanton endangerment.

—  Timmie Ann Bragg, 42, Highland Street, Beckley, charged with petit larceny.

 

Police are still searching for the following individuals:

—  Billy Biggs, 50, Russell Street, Beckley, charged with attempt to obtain by fraud.

— Brittany Hudson, 21, Fairlawn Avenue, Beckley, charged with delivery of marijuana.

—  Randy Jennings, 29, Woodlawn Avenue, Beckley, charged with delivery of oxycodone.

—  James Thomas, 25, Hager Street, Beckley, charged with possession of marijuana.

—  Norman Underwood, 51, Cabin Creek Road, Dry Branch, charged with attempt to obtain by fraud.

— Jeffrey Williams, 33, Maryland Avenue, Beckley, charged with possession of oxycodone.

—  Darnell Mitchell, 25, Freeman Street, Beckley, charged with obstructing.

—  Darren Johnson, 41, Morris Street, Beckley, charged with nighttime burglary.
