The Raleigh County Board of Education talked big money Tuesday before approving an $8.2 million bid package for the construction of the new Marsh Fork Elementary School, making the school a $10 million dollar project in all.
Architect Greg Williamson, of the Charleston-based Williamson Shriver Architects, said he expected more bids to be submitted for the project but felt confident with the big package he recommended to the board.
The board, which will finance $4.1 million of the project, expressed caution about the cost commitment.
“We are going to scrape together every dollar we have to do this,” board member Richard Jarrell said. “I know that change-order can come in even at the end. At this point, we don’t have an appetite for change-orders.”
Board President Richard Snuffer pointed out that one reason the board chose Williamson and Shriver was because of their low percentage of change-orders in other large projects.
