Karnival Kuties pageant set for Feb. 16

BECKLEY — Let your kiddos be the stars of the show while raising money for Newspapers In Education and the Women’s Resource Center at the Karnival Kuties pageant Saturday, Feb. 16, at Woodrow Wilson High School Auditorium.

Jamie Lefler, pageant coordinator, explained this natural pageant “gives boys and girls a boost of confidence, and because every contestant gets a trophy and a crown, they each walk away winners.”

The first pageant is open to boys ages newborn and up and girls 2 and under and starts at 11 a.m. with registration from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m.

The second pageant is open to girls age 3 and over and will begin at 3 p.m. with registration from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m.

The entry fee for both pageant divisions is $40.

Each girl will receive a crown, trophy and gift bag regardless of where she places, while the winners of the elite and grand supreme pageants will take home a crown, trophy, sash and cash prize.

Crowning ceremonies will follow each pageant before the next one starts.

Lefler stresses that the pageant is open to everyone, experienced contestants and first-timers.

Contestants may wear any Mardi Gras-themed attire or anything purple, green, black or gold, off the rack or out of the closet.

Likewise, the pageant judges score on facial beauty and personality, not attire.

“Karnival Kuties is a good, fun-filled day for the family and gives girls and boys time to shine on stage,” explained Lefler. “This is a great way for shy kids to come out of their shell and for all kids to express themselves and have a good time.”

In addition to the judges’ scores, those who attend the pageant can vote for a Fan Favorite for $1 per vote. The Fan Favorite winner will get a crown, sash, gift and trophy.

Every contestant will need to bring an 8x10 or 5x7 natural photo to registration the day of the pageant, Lefler said. A “Most Photogenic” award will be given out in each age division. Participants may enter additional photos for $5 a photo.
