Freezing rain a possibility this morning

BECKLEY — Most of southern West Virginia is under a freezing rain advisory from midnight into this morning, according to meteorologists with the National Weather Service.

The Beckley area could see pockets of freezing rain from midnight to around 7 a.m., but meteorologist Ken Batty said areas in the Greenbrier Valley, such as Lewisburg, could see freezing rain longer into the morning.

Meteorologist William Perry said this could cause a layer of ice to glaze on roadways and sidewalks, so he advised caution throughout Sunday night into this morning.

This afternoon is expected to clear up, with temperatures in the 40s.

Batty said the warm front will peak Tuesday with temperatures reaching the 60s. Wednesday will be a transition day, as another cold front swings back around.

Thursday’s temperatures will be back around freezing. Perry said there will be lots of wind associated with this cold front. He said flooding is also a possibility if rain accompanies the front, as the ground is already saturated from the melted snow.
