BECKLEY —
Approximately 4,400 customers experienced power outages Sunday after a transformer blew at the north Beckley station, according to Appalachian Power spokesman Phil Moye.
The transformer blew just after 9 a.m., but technicians were able to transfer many customers to other power sources while they inspected the problem.
Power was restored to approximately 2,400 customers by noon and technicians were still working at 4 p.m. to transfer the remaining customers to alternate power sources. Beckley Newspapers lost phone service during the early part of the outage.
