CHARLESTON — The summer of 2010 was the hottest in decades in cities across West Virginia.
A National Weather Service release reports that Clarksburg’s 74.6-degree average from June through August tied a record set in 1934. NWS meteorologist Ken Batty said that Elkins and Beckley recorded their second-hottest summers on record.
The average temperature in Elkins was 71.2 degrees, the highest since 2005. Beckley’s average temperature was 72 degrees, the highest since 1931. Charleston recorded an average temperature of 76.8 degrees, the highest since 1943.
Parkersburg’s 75.2 degree average temperature tied for the city’s ninth warmest summer on record.
