Lighthouse test

SUMMERSVILLE — A test of the long-range optics system at the Summersville Lake Lighthouse was conducted Friday evening. The lighthouse was constructed from a damaged tower from Beech Ridge wind farm in Greenbrier County. With help from a variety of engineers, friends, businesses and students from Fayette Institute of Technology and Nicholas County Career and Technical Center, the tower was transformed into the lighthouse complete with spiral staircase, lamp room and working beacon. The grand opening ceremony for the lighthouse, located at Summersville Lake Retreat, is scheduled for West Virginia Day, June 20, from 4 to 8 p.m. According to Retreat owner Donna Keblesh, Sen. Joe Manchin, D-W.Va., will turn on the light at dusk.
