Furfari’s second book, Mickey’s Mountaineer Memories Volume II, now available

For more than 60 years Mickey Furfari has covered the ins and outs of West Virginia University’s athletic program. He’s seen thousands of athletes and hundreds of administrators come and go, all while he’s been there chronicling Mountaineer sports lore.

As he approaches the age of 90, Furfari has penned his second compilation of his WVU experiences in Mickey's Mountaineer Memories, Volume II.

From a profile of his former classmate and longtime “Voice of the Mountaineers” Jack Fleming, to features on famous WVU quarterbacks Pat White and Major Harris, and current Mountaineer basketball coach Bob Huggins, Furfari provides the insight as only he can.

As a follow-up to Volume I, Mickey II also details some of Furfari's lighter moments in a piece he titled “The Dumbest Thing I Ever Did In My Life” along with some more serious takes that include his not so cordial relationship with former WVU President Neil Bucklew.

Other stories in the newest book focus on WVU player, coach and athletic director Leland Byrd, the late Coach Bill Stewart, athletic trainer Whitey Gwynne, two-sport star James Jett, current athletic director and former quarterback Oliver Luck, and WVU’s stunning 2012 Orange Bowl victory.

Former WVU star quarterback and NFL referee Fred Wyant, one of Mickey’s longtime friends, authored the foreword for the book.
