The Resort at Glade Springs owner Jim Justice and the state Department of Environmental Protection are in accord over improvements needed to shore up a dam at the Beckley area resort.
“We’ve got something hammered out that I think works for everybody,” DEP secretary Randy Huffman says.
Huffman said the agreement calls for Glade Springs to improve the impoundment so that it can withstand a 100-year storm event.
A second major point worked out in a meeting with Justice and his engineer, along with Huffman and his staff, calls for a risk management plan since the dam is used as a road.
Huffman said agreed-to modifications will further reduce the prospect of water overflowing the dam.
The DEP secretary said both sides were in mutual agreement on the plan, adding that it likely will take two months for Justice’s engineer to submit the plan to the state.
“We got together and everybody worked very reasonably and we came to a solution that will work for everybody,” said Justice.
