CHARLESTON —
U.S. Homeland Security Secretary Janet Napolitano has received a briefing on Superstorm Sandy’s impact on West Virginia.
Napolitano was in Charleston Saturday to hear from state emergency control officials at a briefing attended by Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin, Sen. Joe Manchin and Reps. Shelley Moore Capito and Nick Rahall. According to media reports, she pledged “every available resource to bear” to help the state recover from the storm, which blanketed portions of the state with heavy snowfall.
The Homeland Security chief called Sandy a “big blow” after a destructive wind storm during the summer.
Approximately 65,000 customers were without power Saturday, down from Friday’s total by nearly 30,000 customers.
