The 74-year-old Mountain State Forest Festival has hired its first executive director.
Renee Teter Heckel’s appointment was effective Monday. She will oversee the festival’s management and be responsible for sponsor recruitment, marketing and public relations, and assuring preservation of the festival’s heritage and culture.
Festival board President Ray LaMora says hiring an executive director is necessary because the annual fall event has expanded.
Previously, volunteers organized and ran the Randolph County festival.
