Berkeley Springs recovering from weekend flooding

BERKELEY SPRINGS — Berkeley Springs merchants and residents are recovering from severe flooding.

A heavy downpour Saturday afternoon submerged much of downtown in water, flooding basements and businesses. Mud and debris covered the streets and storefronts after the waters receded Saturday night.

Dave Michael, director Morgan County’s Office of Emergency Services, told The Journal more than 6 inches of rain fell in about three hours. Several streets, including U.S. 522, were temporarily closed. Some businesses also had to close for cleanup.
