An early-morning belt fire at Hobet surface mine in Boone County was put out by firefighters within a few hours Thursday, Boone Emergency Operations dispatchers reported.
The fire was reported to the EOC at 12:44 a.m. Crews from Madison, Danville and Morrisville fire departments extinguished the flames, clearing the site at 4:29 a.m,
No miners were injured, but it was reported that one firefighter was transported to a hospital for heat and exhaustion.
The fire is under investigation by the state Office of Miners’ Health Safety and Training.
