CLARKSBURG — Sen. Robert C. Byrd says the FBI and Department of Defense are planning a $328 million center for using technology to identify potential terrorists in Clarksburg.
The West Virginia Democrat said Thursday the 360,000-square-foot building will be used for research and development of so-called biometrics technology. Biometrics uses traits such as face shape to identify people.
Byrd says the FBI plans to move biometrics employees from satellite offices in Fairmont to the new building, which will be able to hold almost 2,000 employees.
After a construction contract is awarded next fall, Byrd says the building should be done by 2013.
The center will be built on the FBI’s Criminal Justice Information Services campus in Clarksburg.
