CHARLES TOWN — The Jefferson County Commission has approved an annexation plan that could keep gambling revenues in Shepherdstown.
The plan allows the Eastern Panhandle city to annex 11 Shepherd University dorms. Annexing the dorms would increase the town’s population by an estimated 660 students.
The town’s lawyer, Charles Printz, told commissioners the annexation would preserve Shepherdtown’s share of gambling revenues local governments receive from the nearby Charles Town Races & Slots.
Commissioners approved the plan on Thursday.
