CHARLESTON — A former cardiology fellow at Marshall University’s School of Medicine is expected to plead guilty to health care fraud charges.
A plea hearing for Dr. John Theodore Tiano is scheduled Dec. 15 in U.S. District Court in Charleston.
Tiano is charged in a federal information with conspiracy to misuse a registration number and aiding and abetting health care fraud.
He is accused of allowing a Mingo County clinic and its employees to use his name and Medicare provider number to bill for services that he didn’t personally provide.
The scheme defrauded more than $119,000 from Medicare.
