Manchins assist the needy at meal
CHARLESTON — Gov. Joe Manchin started his Thanksgiving early, by giving a hand to some people in need.
The governor and first lady Gayle Manchin were both on hand at the Union Mission Crossroads homeless shelter in Charleston on Wednesday.
The state’s first couple assisted with a Thanksgiving meal distribution at the shelter, which usually serves between 150 and 200 meals per day.
Last weekend was the big pre-Thanksgiving food giveaway for Union Mission. About 10,000 families in 19 counties received food baskets distributed by Union Mission.
Union Mission President Rex Whiteman says the need is greater than anything he’s seen in 40 years.
