CHARLESTON — A former West Virginia state trooper who resigned amid a criminal investigation into a woman’s allegation that he sexually assaulted her is now Hinton’s police chief.
The Charleston Gazette reported Derek S. Snavely’s appointment Sunday.
Snavely resigned last December after a woman accused him of forcing her to have sex with him following a traffic stop.
Snavely admits in civil court filings to having sex with the woman while on duty, but says it was consensual.
Kanawha County prosecutors declined to bring charges against Snavely, saying there was no evidence of forcible compulsion.
Attempts to reach Snavely for comment were unsuccessful.
