The chairman of Fairmont State University’s Board of Governors is apologizing for an incident involving his son’s playing time during a recent college football game.
Andy Kniceley issued the apology to Fairmont assistant coach Gary Lanham, the school and the board in a story posted Thursday on the Times West Virginian’s Web site. Kniceley is also the Fairmont newspaper’s publisher.
The apology stemmed from an Oct. 31 after-game incident where Kniceley confronted Lanham over why his son only had three minutes of playing time during the game.
A police officer and Kniceley’s son broke up the incident. No charges have been filed.
Kniceley said his comments were made as a concerned parent, and not as the chairman of the school’s board.
